Anti-Aging Medicine

A Preventive Anti-Aging Medicine

Anti-age reconstructive

surgery

Plastic reconstructive surgery is performed to correct functional problems caused by: burns, traumatic injury such as facial fractures, birth defects such as cleft lip or cleft palate, developmental abnormalities, infection or disease; ablation of cancer or tumours, such as a mastectomy for breast cancer, cancer of the head or neck or abdominal invasion by colon cancer.

Plastic reconstructive surgery is usually performed to improve function, but it can be done to recreate the normal appearance. In that case the reconstructive surgical procedures are: breast reconstruction for women who have had a mastectomy, surgery for cleft lip or palate, transplant surgery for burn survivors, creating a new external ear when it is congenitally absent, and closing defects of the skin and mucous membranes after removal of tumours in particular in the region of the head and neck.

Plastic surgeons developed the use of microsurgery to transfer the tissue to correct a defect when no local tissue is available. Plots of skin, muscle, bone, fat can be removed from the body, be moved to another location on the body and restore blood supply by suturing arteries and veins as small as 1-2 mm in diameter.
